let me introduce myself ...

hello scarf sisters ... my name is saija ... (pronounced "sigh ya" ... )

our mutual - sweet friend - mrs. mac, has invited me to join your merry band of sisters ... thank you for the honour ... *smile*

notice "honour" is spelt a wee bit differently ... that's 'cause i'm a canadian gal (born in finland) and we keep to the british way of spelling certain words ... though spelling is not my strong suit!

i live in southern manitoba (cottage country) ...

i've been married to my sweetie for 36 years now ...
we don't have any children ... though we have had a number of furry family members over the years ... currently we share our condo with indie - a small black cat from a local shelter ...

our life is a little out of the ordinary in that my husband leo, has lived with chronic, disabling, back pain for 27 years  (2 failed back surgeries, plus the hospital stays, etc etc) - he was forced to take an early retirement ... without our faith in God, i truly don't think we could have survived some of the upheavel chronic pain brings with it ...

i've been blogging for almost 6 years now (www.saija.blogspot.com) ... unfortunately the last 2 years has been sporadic posting only! - but i've made such good friends through this way of communicating, that i don't want to stop blogging ... AND just a few weeks ago, i had my very first face to face encounter with one of my blogging buds ...
yup, the canadian gal herself - terry and her husband bernie ... it was so sweet of them to drop by for coffee and a chitchat ... they were such nice folks ...

just a brief intro ... i'm looking forward to whatever mrs. mac has up her sleave for the sisterhood of the travelling scarf this year ... blessings on your week!

Let me be the first sister to
welcome you, Saija. I hope you
will be made to feel as welcome
as I have recently been. Look
forward to getting to know you!
Blessings,
Sandy
(I will keep your husband in
my prayers, as well as you,
of course.)

Howdy from far away, in Texas! Well, maybe not as far away as some of the other sisters here! Welcome to the "hood"!

Southern Manitoba, my Hubby Dave goes fishing up in Northern Manitoba quite a bit,. They'll drive to Thompson and then have a float plane fly them, canoes and all their gear in to Wilkie Lake and drop them off for *10 days. They get picked up at a pre-determined destination and get flown back out. Next summer, our son Charles (almost 20) will be making his first big fishing trip with Dave and he's pretty excited!

Don't you know it Terry! It was June of 09 that they had to come up with plan C since there was still so much ice on the lake! They wound up driving 1000 miles and all through the night to make it to Red Lake Ontario in time for a different pilot to fly them to a lake w/o ice!!

feeling at home ... thanx!

and Constance, would you believe that i went to high school in Thompson and that is where i met and married leo ... so that area is very familiar to me ... though i wouldn't want to live there 24/7 anymore - it has changed alot - and i don't care for the isolation and cold cold winters!! but that location is definitely a shaper of who i am today!
