I cannot remember a time that music was not a part of my life. My father loved country music and gospel hymns and my mother enjoyed all music....I can reflect on my growing up years Saturday nights listening to the country greats Johnny Horton, Jim Reeves, Marty Robinson, Charley Pride, Johnny Cash and then switching over at a certain hour to Lawrence Welk and then later to gospel hyms. I played clarinet in high school band, sang in the chorus and in the church choir. My musical skills have greatly diminished as I've entered my later years. Fingers aren't accustomed to the playing of an instrument anymore and my voice has all but lost the soprano abilities it once knew, but my love for music has never waned. I am an avid listener of rock and roll, 60's/70's oldies, jazz, folk, blues, country, classical, big band just to name a few. I grew up learning, singing hymns and old time gospel, but also have a deep appreciation for the contemporary of today. Whatever genre you prefer to praise the Lord, may it flow from the depth of your heart and offer up a sweet, sweet sound...of joy, rejoicing, celebrating...one of Holiness.
By
reading the scriptures I am so renewed that all nature seems renewed
around me and with me. The sky seems to be a pure, a cooler blue, the
trees a deeper green. The whole world is charged with the glory of God
and I feel fire and music under my feet.

My Redeemer Lives
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
Psalm 104:33
Sing a New Song
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise
to the rock of our salvation!
Psalm 95:1
How Great Is Our God
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
Psalm 105:2
Bless the Lord, O My Soul

Thank you for the music, beginning where the words stop. I played "Just as I am" and sung along, filled the home with promises and praise.
Yesterday I was talking for some hours with Terry and Mom Golden, and we discissed just this theme. How easy it is to get saved. Coming just as we are, like the thief on the cross, "Think of me, when you come to your paradise." Terry, next time we Skype, we'll sing along across the Sea, you, Mom Golden and me, eh?

I am right there with you on growing up wit music. My grandparents and great grands were varying degrees of musicians and singers...one taught a "singing school" where they taught the "fa so la" method of singing...others played by ear with no formal training at all....right down to my parents....both musician and singer...they loved music and passed that love on to me....I have learned to see and hear Christ in all kinds of music...He is the maker of all good things and is after all.... ALL and in all. He has always and continues to bring me great joy through music.
Like so many of us, I feel that I must have been born on the church pew while music was playing and folks were singing! I so well remember those "singing schools" Cheryl spoke of, learning the shaped note style of singing. Music was constantly going at our house, either on the radio, Momma's record player or Momma was singing as she worked around the house. My heart and soul are at their best when music is in the air! Thank you Donna for this lovely post to remind us how we are influenced by the sounds of our life!
Music lives deep in the soul, in many forms. Often when I hear children laughing I thing they sound like angels singing.
I'm thankful to have grown up in a home that loved music and have so many of those early hymns as well as contemporary music deep in my heart!
dad golden will sing along too felisol..when i played that song[it is no secret] that his beloved new yorker daughter sent to him, he sang right along with it and then continued even after the music died away.....this great family of sisters of ours are such a treasure to him and mom golden and to all of our own families!!!!THANK YOU MRS. MAC!....love terry
Music. Sigh.... what a gift from the Lord. The love of music lives deep within my heart as well...and I am always singing on the inside. I refrain from always singing aloud so as not to disturb the people who may not want to hear me! ;) But when I'm alone...I'm singing. Almost always. :)
I especially loved the medley version of Just As I Am and I Come Broken to Be Mended...hadn't heard that before. Simply beautiful! Perhaps it's a part of Just As I Am of which I may not be familiar....who knows?
Wonderful post....
beautiful post, with all the songs ready to listen to with just a tap on the link. Music speaks where words are not enough. I believe music is the language of heaven.
