NEWness of Life

 How Beautiful by Twila Paris

I was thrilled to see the box from Texas sitting on my front porch.  I knew this meant I was next in the sock adventure journey.  I have thought about this journey and prayed over what the Lord would have me share.

As I have said several different times and in many places over the past few weeks, the Lord has been doing a pruning work in my spirit.  There were things I needed to let go of.  The biggest of which was my continued tight-fisted grasp on my life with Terry.  I couldn't stop loving Terry even if I wanted to.  I fought so hard against the Lord on this battle.

I finally realized that He wasn't asking me to stop loving Terry, only to let that love grow into a deeper and more abiding love for my Savior and for those to whom He will send me.  A piece of me abides in heaven now.  I thought I would never be able to be really happy, really filled with joy, really content again until I was reunited with that part of me.

As the Lord closed doors, I began to see the truth that I had allowed the enemy to hid from me.  The truth is that I was dishonoring not only Terry's memory, but the Lord as well because I chose not to let go.  I clung to those emotions as though I would die if I let go.  I insisted to the Lord that I wanted to walk in His path for me; yet I continued to hold on to things that kept me from doing that in a manner that honored Him.

I looked up a couple of words in the dictionary and I was accosted by the Holy Spirit as I read.
(1) FACADE:  a false, superficial, or artificial appearance or effect; an outward appearance that is maintained to conceal a less pleasant or creditable reality.
(2) HYPOCRITE:  a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.

As I pondered the definitions, I began to realize that I was a hypocrite living behind a facade.  I was saying all the right things, but was secretly coming apart inside.  I interacted with people, I was out and about; but when I came home and the night closed in around me, I melted into a heap of emotions and cried myself to a restless sleep every night.  I cried so much and so hard that my nose bled.

I wasn't doing anything wrong...........that's the reasoning I used.  Yet, it was a lie; I was definitely doing things wrong.  I was placing my own need to hold on to my old life ahead of reaching out to grasp the new life the Lord was offering me.

When I first recognized what the Holy Spirit was saying to me, I rebelled in a big way.  Not out loud so everyone else could see my rebellion, but quietly so only the Holy Spirit and I knew what was going on.  I am a sly sinner!

So, to tie this all in to our sock adventure, this is what the Lord has said to me through His Word, prayer and the wooing of the Holy Spirit........release your past and allow it to become the blessing to you and others that it was meant to be; search diligently for the work of the present assigned to you; and look ahead to see where the Holy Spirit is drawing you in service.

For the first time since Terry's home going, I can lay my head on my pillow at night and drift into a peaceful night's rest without tears.  Pictures no longer cause a lump in my throat.  And music has again become my companion of joy instead of a tool for yet more tears.  Do I still cry?  Well, of course I do, but no longer out of sadness; it is now joy for the love we shared and the reunion we will have one day.

I cry when I pray; a feeling of empathy has returned for my brothers and sisters who are hurting.  I find myself seeking ways to love people better.  I work diligently at growing into the intimate relationship with the Lord that I know He wants for me.

For me, this journey became a journey in earnest last October at the lodge when Amy made a prophetic pronouncement to Donna.  As I sat and listened to what Amy was saying, I knew that word was meant for me as well............NEW.  It was time to find my new life, my new walk, my new place of service.

As Paul said in Acts 20:24 (NLT)............."But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God."

Today I stand ready and willing to go wherever He leads, do whatever He commands, be whomever He needs me to be in order to finish my work in His kingdom.  I am excited to see where this journey takes me.  My spirit knows there are going to be changes on my horizon, some small and seemingly inconsequential, others will be large and beyond my own imaginings.  Wherever, whatever, whoever, whenever.............where He leads me I will follow.

And these feet are the beginning of that journey.............

The TN leg of the Sock Adventure is off!

Dear Diane,
You are a gruesome honest sinner, making mine stand out like mountains.
They say time is healing, but I guess like you say, one has be willing to let healing take place.
To me you are ever so sweet and tender, but I take your word for the bitter battle that has taken place is true. What a trooper you are, fighting alone, crying alone, ad now hopefully praising and laughing with many.
Thank you ever so much for sharing.
Oh, I feel I'd like to be new too. Geet rid of all the muck and repeared filth clinging so close to me.
Yes, I will pray for a new me!

Diane – as I read your post – I couldn’t help but smile at the ways in which our God works. Using the word Amy spoke over Donna…to spill out onto you…for it to do its work in your heart and life…and now to cause it to spill out onto us. Our lives are tangled and woven and stitched together by that great Weaver – as He weaves a tapestry so beautiful….one day we will be amazed as we view it.

Thank you for sharing your heart. I appreciate your admission of being a “sly sinner” – another term might be “secret sinner” – I know that term applies to me in some areas of my life and attitudes of my heart. Your words have touched me – reached to the core – and have instigated thoughts of myself making some changes.

I love you sister friend! …and can’t wait to read more of your sock adventures in Tennessee!

I love you sweet lady! I read your honest post and it made me think of how nurturing and tender the Lord is to us! It is SO easy to beat ourselves up over our failings and weaknesses and for Satan to heap guilt and condemnation upon us. God's timing is always perfect! He knew the exact time your heart was ripe for Him to reveal His message to you.

I've come to the conclusion that none of us are experts in life. We are all participants and this earthly life we live is an ongoing journey of imperfect progress.

I love that God doesn't wait for us to be perfect, have all the answers or be super Christians. He only wants an open and willing heart that says YES to following him on whatever path he takes us down!

I appreciate your insights and even your life experiences that you bring to the table of our sisterhood. Each of us is unique in the journey God has walked us through so that we can be a blessing and an encouragement to one another!

Diane, you are a woman of grace....
Love, Connie

"Wherever, whatever, whoever, whenever.............where He leads me I will follow." There is a not truer goal in life. You are being perfected and refined. Just the most beautiful post I've read in a very long time. Love,

dear sweet lady di...i finally have a chance to comment here and read each word of this heart touching post..
first of all i do love the socks...it is winter and so i wear these same looking socks to church..i hate nylons and in the winter i take advantage of my boots and my long coat to hide the stripes..ha!..come winter i will be back to nylons!
it is incredible how you gave all of your feelings and heartbreak to the lord about terry...you know i heard one time in church about when an unsaved persons heart hardens it is like dried up mud and impossible to soften and the longer the sun shines, it just gets harder...well when a christian heart experiences the same hot sun[trials], well the heart is just like wax and the hotter the trial the more the wax melts and softens and then the more pliable it will be in the lord jesus's tender hands...diane this is exactly the way your heart is...so soft and pure...i know that i would have missed so much if connie hadn't of brought you to us!

diane, my sister gracie said "so long for now" to her husband, eric. when.she was only about 23 and she had four children to raise...she missed eric terribly and still does, but she walked with the lord and even though she never closed the door to love, it never happened but she did one good job raising those kids..three graduated college and one is a happy mother of three children...three are saved and know the lord..she is just watching and praying that the lord will save her youngest son, justin..
gracie did not give up on life and she has a tender soft heart like you do diane.
when she was in her late 20;s, i taught her piano until grade 5...and she was so good, i couldn't handle her anymore..i had to send her on to a professional...now she teaches in a piano studio and she wants to make it her goal in life to teach even more students...

diane, you mentioned that you can lay your heard on your pillow now and cry tears of joy...it took gracie about ten years before she could get into a bed instead of sleeping on the couch...what a soother the lord has been to you and to her and i haven't the slightest idea the pain and now the joy you are going thorough but i must say, i honour and respect and love you so much...i only wish that i could attain the sane thing...the last while i feel that sometimes[not always] that my heart is hard as rock!
thank you so much for this honest post dear sister.....love terry

Beautiful heartfelt post - so inspiring. I loved every word you wrote. From the very latest post, and scrolled down to here. The songs you shared are beautiful. SOme are among my favorites too, like How Beautiful by Twila Paris, and the one by Chris Tomlin... and definitely Friends, by Michael Smith.

I am so blessed to have you as a "sister" - so caring, so kind, so thoughtful.

I am rejoicing with you in the miracle of your healing. Do pray with me for my own healing miracle!

Much love
Lidia
