....what may seem insignificant to most is monumental to some...
Miss Olivia has Girl Scout Day Camp this week. She has attended two days thus far and both days she has cried most of the 20 mile drive home. She dislikes her leader - in fact, has started to refer to her as "Miss Rudie" because she thinks she's very rude.
In being the best Mom that I can be, trying to set a good example and be an encourager, I have talked to Olivia at length about her leader - appearing to give her the benefit of the doubt - when in reality, I can see...just in the 15 minutes at the beginning and end of the day that Olivia is probably very accurate in her assessment.
As I type this, Olivia is in bed, hysterical because she doesn't want to go to Day Camp tomorrow morning.
Since Girl Scouting holds some of my best childhood memories, this breaks my heart for a number of reasons - not the least being that I hate to see my daughter hurting.
We've prayed each night for her leader...and each day Olivia tells me that God isn't answering her prayers because her leader isn't the most patient person in the world. Anyone who is a parent or who deals with children knows that an abundance of patience is a requirement - not optional!
Ugh. Tomorrow, I may speak to the Camp Director...don't know yet...still praying about that. In the meantime - as you read this - please say a prayer for Miss O and her Day Camp "adventure"(?)
Thanks!

I'll be praying for Ms. O. You know her personality and you know if you should be concerned enough to do something, including having her not go any more. Go with your gut.
Bless her heart. If she is that upset and already has a nickname for her leader...I'm sure there is cause for concern! I agree with Pat, maybe she shouldn't go anymore. I will definitely be praying for Miss O.! Some Adults should not work with children...EVER!!!
Prayer is definite the best way to solve problems, always.
I have some of my best childhood memories from being a scout.
My daughter has divided experiences.
We are allowed to require a certain quality from those who are caretakers and role models for our children. Teachers, church workers, coaches and scout leaders.
You do right in listening to our daughter. Only that way will you be sure she'll come back when in trouble.
I am praying for your daughter and the scout leader as well.
From Felisol
P.S.
I'd be happy if anyone would pray for my daughter too. She has heavy doubts about her abilities and further education.
We have been praying the Lord for guidance all summer.
Now is the time she must make some decisions.
Once more;
Yours Felisol
Just like there are some school teachers out there that need to hang up their erasers so there are Scout leaders who shouldn't be doing their jobs any more! Dave and I used to work in Youth Ministry with High School age teens. WE both knew that once our passion and patience were gone, it was God's way of moving us out of that season in our lives! This is such a shame b/c this is supposed to be a wonderful experience for her.
It's 2 sided really. Do you make her stick it out so she can learn some sort of "life lesson" or maybe it's for a reason that she is where she is.... or
As a Mom do you validate her feelings and go all "Mama Bear" and protect your little cub from even more anxiety?
Praying for wisdom and guidance for you. I am sure from what I have seen and read about you that you will make the right decision in regards to your little Miss "O"!
Hugs,
Connie
Please don't make her go back. The financial loss of whatever you paid for that camp will be much less than the hurt it's causing you & Olivia. I remember that you were a First Class Girl Scout [equivalent of the Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts, for those who may not be familiar with the programs] Not going to this camp will not stop Olivia from having a productive, wonderful time in scouting. [forcing it could tarnish her whole image of Girl Scouts]
I am praying that God will give you wisdom, and I will, of course, respect any decision you make for your child. I'm just saying I'm not sure I'd want to force that on my 7 year old.
I can also understand the point of view that some grand life lesson, or even a miracle from God may be missed if she doesn't go back. Pray, seek His face, and do what you know in your heart is best for Miss O. Love you!
Deb...wondering how Miss O did today! Our Madison had a rude and very degrading softball coach this year. She nicknamed her...Jabba the Butt! (which we didn't encourage)
Kell, asked her why on earth she called her that and her reply was that "she is as big as Jabba the Hut from Stars Wars and she acts like a butt!" Kids are sooo honest!
I am praying.
This I'll say, if she really hates it, maybe she shouldn't go, otherwise next year she REALLY won't want to go.
I loved being a scout leader!
Praying!
