Commencement

Abigail

Abigail with brother Caleb, Dad Alan and Mom Dawn

Today was another cause for family celebration.  Our niece Abigail graduated cum laude from UCA with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Abigail has always been a ray of sunshine.  Her friends shared with us today that she is always smiling and full of joy. They said, “That’s why she is everyone’s friend.”

Abigail in Papua New Guinea

She is a Godly young woman; wise beyond her years in her faith.  She plans to attend two years in seminary preparing for a career in missions.  Already she has spent much of her time on the mission field including a journey to the other side of the world to Papua New Guinea.

Lunch with some friends...digging that rocking desert!

Not only does she have a smile that brightens your spirit, she has faith and conviction to carry His light to a world of darkness.  She has attracted and bonded with many young people who share her faith and conviction.  We had the opportunity to visit with several of her friends at lunch today.  They too are a joy and an encouragement.

We were hesitant about the trip.  There were many detours along the way because of flooding and tornado damage. We left early before sunrise to make it on time.  All things considered, the trip was not too difficult.

No, this is not the lake. It is water along the detour road!

The sights on the way back were difficult to see.  We passed through the town
of Vilonia where several homes and lives were destroyed by a tornado. The mood was somber but determined as we watched neighbors helping each other along.  While theircommencement is different, they too are an example of hope in the human spirit. They are missionaries within their own neighborhood. They too show promise of a new beginning.

Damaged home in Vilonia

Again, we are thankful for our blessings oh Lord.

What use to be a home.

Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
Psalm 31:24

Congratulations to Abigail! What an encouraging word to read about her committment to the Lord and His work. I know the trip must have been bittersweet for you; the destruction caused by the storms is heart breaking. I am so thankful that you shared and that you find hope and an opportunity for service and encouragement in all things. I pray you have a most Happy Mother's Day!

Many hugs............

Diane

Thanks for introducing us to sweet Abigail. In a world full of depressing news we simply need some lights to focus on.

Your tornado report was devastating. Imagine loosing ones home "out of the blue"this horrible way.
It should be a reminder to all of us, to keep our treasure where our hearts should be.
And also not to close our eyes to neighbors in need.

I have enjoyed your posts, Linda! I'm just now catching up from a bit of a break from blogging...things at home keeping me busy!

Abigail is beautitful...praying that the Lord continues to use her mightily to advance His kingdom!

I also enjoyed the photos in the earlier post of the L'Phant riders! The elephant is my very favorite animal and I have always wanted to ride one! I'm jealous!!

Looking forward to more of your posts as you journey with our Bible.
