Day 9

One picture says it all today....There was enough sun to sit out on a friends deck today after church....for those of you already "enduring" the warm temperatures...well, I am sorry - we are not to that point yet! Scarf was with me and He/She/It was so thrilled with the rays that there were no complaints when He/She/It was cast aside and had to wait in the shadows for another moment in the spotlight!

Tomorrow, Victoria Day will be the final day of Scarf's visit to this area.....maybe - possibly - could be.....that one or two flowers might bloom by then so that Terry's memories of Manitoba will remain intact......I shall let Scarf wander a bit and go out into the country to have a look......note: I said Maybe....you never know around here, it might snow again!!!!

It looks like a perfectly wonderful day! We've had upper 80's here in Western TN, but down to about 70 today and about that tomorrow. I just noticed the brace on your left wrist. Are you okay? Don't mean to be nosy, just concerned!

Many hugs.......

Diane

dear rebecca...none of your posts of you and scarf have been a disappointment to me...none of them.
when i saw that wintry flat road you were travelling on day seven, it brought back so many memories to me of mom golden and us nine children being driven 33 miles from rivers to brandon for sunday school.
it was was a thirty minute ride and all the way there and back we sang sunday school songs at the top of our lungs and it was in that car, one day that we had two little pentecostal girls along and they taught us the song,"there is coming a day"..
o what a glorious song it was rebecca!
no..your posts were not a disappointment.
i am sure that when those flat fields of golden and mauve flowers bloom, rebecca, you will post some for me on your blog and when the saskatoon berries and choke cherry bushes bear fruit, then perhaps you can take some pictures of them for me too!
no never a disappointing moment rebecca......you are a good girl!

Dear Rebecca,
I'm glad on your behalf that the spring is finally there.
Anyway, with you we all have seen that no matter what kind of weather you have had, the contents of your life have been full and so very interesting.
Thank you for taking us along.
I do hope that it's not due to all the photographing your writs has got a brace on. Take care when driving.

Hello ladies.....the brace.....I forgot I had it on when my friend Dianne took tht photopraph. About 7 weeks ago I broke my wrist and last week the cast came off, but it is not completely healed and is quite painful at times...this brace helps with that. I know I am doing too many things that I should not be doing but I am a very active person and the six weeks locked up in the brace was all that I could bear!! So, all is well, just a little painful and there are tablets for that - yahoo!!
Terry...just think of the jams I can make when the berries come out!!!

a most happy Victoria Day. You must tell a little about what the day is all about for us foreigners :)

Perhaps the scarf would make use of herself and act as an arm sling ;)

I can feel your relief/enjoyment to be sitting in the warmth of the spring sun for a few moments rest.

Choke cherry jam sounds delish!

Yes, we've been enduring warmer temperatures here in Texas and yet where you are, it's still another season!

My Hub will be headed to Manitoba soon for his annual wilderness fishing trip with the guys. They'll be flown in, canoes strapped to the pontoons, all their gear piled inside and be on the water for 10 days. They usually make a pit stop in Winnipeg for a meal.

One year they were so far ahead of schedule that they went to a movie. I'm hoping that you were able to enjoy some of those flowers!

Do they fly up or drive? That is a long drive from Texas...did it a couple of times (non stop) when my daughter was in Bible School in Dallas.....
which lodge do they go to???

hey rebecca, when the saskatoon berries came out, even mom and dad golden used to pick them with us kids.
mom golden would make jam and homemade bread.
one thing about the manitoba bread is that it used to rise almost twice as big as the ontario bread.
i never knew why and oh the donuts that mom golden used to make!
she used to make choke cherry jam too.
oh those choke cherries..they were so bad..we knew that we shouldn't be eating them raw but we just couldn't help it, eh?
when we did...they sure lived up to their name.."choke" ha our throats would be awfully dry, so we could hardly swallow for a while but we just couldn't stay away from eating them!
did you have to say good bye to scarf yet?
parting is such sweet sorrow, eh?
is scarf saying eh with the best if them still?
i really drove it into scarf's head to not forget to keep saying eh in between the america "huh"!...ha!
huh, eh?...i don't know what my felisol taught it to say at the end of the norwegian sentences...
take care rebecca....i will be seeing you at your blog when you cough up some good pictures of my beloved manitoba....love terry

ha! the word verification says "ashes" rebecca.
i will never forget when dad golden was driving us from trenton, ontario to our new house in rivers manitoba, the smell of the burnt fields, i guess they do that at the end of a farming season.
every time i smell that these days, it brings back so many prairie memories!

dear connie...where do they go for their fishing trip. is it northern manitoba?
too bad you couldn't go with them and make a long "pit stop" at our rebecca's! that would be so nice!

Boy that Terry is 'long winded', eh, huh, duh, aaaah! (I love you Terry).
I live vicariously through your childhood stories. A picture of a younger you (Terry) pops up instantly in my mind whenever you start writing about your life as a child in the Golden family.

The Japanese people say, 'no' as a question for the word 'yes' at the end of their sentences ... to make matters a bit confusing.

Just what did Felisol teach scarf to say, hummmm. Let's hear from her on that topic.

Hugs,

never you mind mrs. mac!
i was in the depths of despair for a few days and now i must make up for lost time!
no way is this girl short of words!
although i must admit i am not a talker in real life! ha!
three days ago i took pictures of our lilacs for a special lady but there are so many people having birthdays what is a person to do?
maybe in the interlude while scarf is flying through space it will just have to honour our lilac princess on the sisterhood blog, eh, huh, hmmmmmmmmm...no!....love terry

Dave's fishing trip:
We make the first leg of the drive from Denton to St Charles (just outside St Louis, MO). This is home for us. While Dave is in Canada, I am hanging out with friends and family, shopping, eating lunch and spending money! In St Charles, he joins up with his best friend Charlie (whom our son is named after) and they drive clear up to Lynn Lake, NW of Thompson.

From there they hook up with a charter that flies them in to their lake with all of their gear, tents, canoes, poles, food and so on. They are going to be on Wilkie and McDennon Lakes again this year as long as the ice has melted off. If not, they'll go with plan B which I have no idea what it is! Ha Ha!

They arrange a meeting day and time with the pilot and at the end of the 10 days, he lands and loads them all up again! Usually, when they come off the lake, their first stop is someplace with juicy cheeseburgers, french fries and milk shakes! They literally fish 12 hours a day! UGH! I couldn't do that, I've told dave I'd have to have some books with me and I would lie around and read the whole time. The only problem is that I HATE, LOATHE and DESPISE canoes! Ever since I flipped ours 2 years ago and Dave's camera got ruined, I am paranoid! They stand up and fish and I would just be a nervous wreck!

Ha Ha...I know the area well...I used to live in Lynn Lake....at the last house on the left before you get to the airport..On Silver!!
I could not wait to get out of there...true, we ate fish every day and that was great....but there was not much to do other than fish and go for walks! Well...if they pass through The Peg...they are very welcome to my place for food and showers etc......
