A Stress-Free Dinner

Tonight's recipe for a Stress-Free Dinner:

Open the freezer - take out a bag of frozen country-style pork spare ribs (which you purchased in mass quantities when they were on sale at Giant Eagle, brought them home, separated and froze them into bags of five each - perfect portion for a family dinner.)

Dump them in the crock pot with a good slathering of your favorite BBQ sauce. (Typically, I would make my own BBQ sauce with brown sugar, worchestershire sauce and a bunch of other ingredients, but I just went rooting around (that's a western Pennsylvania expression) in my fridge 'til I found of bottle of KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce --works for me!)

Cook on high all day.

Serve with ....I don't know....noodles or rice and some green vegetable.

There you have it - a totally stress-free dinner!

I love Pork country style spare ribs and Crock Pots!
My Southern Mama, always cooked pork ribs instead of beef.
I also love, throwing pork ribs in the crock pot with saurkraut and cooking all day...Mmm.

I love learning new things. The term crock pot isn't known nor is the item to be bought in Norway. I found a long, interesting article on Wikipedia. The pot was invented in 1970, and still hasn't made it's way over the Atlantic. I wonder what the reason may be.
American el article are not compatible to Norwegian, so maybe they've found the market wasn't interesting?
Must be a working housewife's dream.

On the other hand, it thing maybe your West Virginian expression actually may have a Nordic root.
Root= rot in Norwegian. It means both root and mess. I'm a bit of a root head myself and had no problem in understanding that expression.

Bon apetite!

Delicious dinner!

Can you share your BBQ sauce recipe?

I wonder if there is an Indian version of a crock pot ?

Felisol, you can get somewhat of the same 'slow cooked' goodness if your stove top has a slow-simmer burner, or perhaps a Dutch oven (heavy baking/roasting pan with a lid)and low oven temperature ... you'll have to 'fiddle' with the heat settings .. but it would be worth a try.

boy deb..it doesn't look stress free to me.
i am starved after looking at this picture and the only thing i can make in a hurry is a whole whack of kraft dinner.
and besides, it looks very stressful when it comes to scouring the sauce off of that lovely looking casserole dish..
oh the whole thing looks so yummy and i have to settle for kraft dinner.
what a cruel world!...love terry

Crock Pots Rock! I agree, I think we need to send one to Norway! My other favorite is my "La Creuset" knock offs! I found them at Sprawl Mart by Travertina at a much better price! They are cast iron and as heavy as the dickens but they have enamel coating on the inside! They make THE BEST roasts and tenderloins!

Is your recipe going over on the cooking blog? I haven't spent much time over there yet b/c my life is like a 3 ring circus these days!

looks yummy Deb.....I havent used my crockpot in a very long time...

Felisol...do you have slow cookers for oven use....I used to have a Romertopf....a clay slow cooker....typically you cook in them without liquid...some people don't like them, but anything I ever cooked in one came out delicious...

mine was a wedding present for Ron and I, but when we moved from Colorado...it disappeared...

i might put that on my christmas wish list

Donna,
you are right. There is something called a Römertopf. A clay tray with a lid to go.
I broke my mother's stumbling down the last step to our food basement. I broke my right ankle and lay in an ocean on of gravy and roasted pork with the ambulance came.
Very juicy steak though to be slowly cooked inside the oven for hours, if I remember right.
Maybe I'll look out for one in a flea market.
My cool, black stove top has no slow simmer burner.
Never known any other who had one either.
And my friends are excellent cooks with gadget mania.
We still are vikings though.
There's a waiting list to buy the latest iphone. Apple preferred China to Norway.

Well, they have made it over the Atlantic to England as I bought one there for my Father....so maybe they will arrive before too long in Norway....they are great for winter cooking....
